Purpose of Position

The Head of Business Growth is responsible for the development and performance of all business growth activities. Staffs and directs the sales team and provides leadership towards the achievement of maximum profitability and growth in line with company goals, vision and values.

The Head of Business Growth establishes strategies and implements them to expand the customer base and drives the realization of the sales objectives in both the short and long term.

Position Responsibilities

Pipeline management (50%)
  • Deliver top line sales growth through new and existing partnerships
  • Deliver the agreed sales target for the Financial Year by owning the sales pipeline and adjusting as necessary to create sustainable growth and target achievement
  • Establish sales expectations and objectives by forecasting and developing annual sales quotas for the various team members, projecting expected sales volume and profit
  • Ensure that all sales teams have what they need within the business limitations, to deliver on targets
  • Ensure regular communication of corporate targets as well as priorities to the sales team and ensure execution of these strategies to ensure alignment with the corporate goals
  • With practical remedies, flag areas for concern / improvement / opportunity as early as possible
  • Provide timely feedback to senior management regarding performance
  • Seek financially advantageous opportunities with new customers and nurture appropriate relationships with them

People management (30%)
  • Ensure that the sales team is focused on target achievement
  • Set examples for sales staff in areas of personal character, work habits, commitment, organization and selling skills
  • Ensure that all business activity is conducted in line with company values, policies and ethics codes of conduct
  • Assist sales staff in preparation of action plans, proposals and presentations
  • Maintain accurate records of all pricings, sales, and activity reports submitted by the sales staff
  • Work with performance and budget data to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of the team
  • Control expenses to meet budget guidelines
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, high performance and continuous process improvement within the sales team
  • Manage the sales team to drive business growth across all customer sectors, focusing on creating value driven business opportunities
  • Ensure that all sales staff meet or exceed all activity standards for prospecting calls, appointments, presentations, proposals and closes

Capacity building (10%)
  • Ensure competent and motivated staff are hired and retained
  • Ensure sales related policies, procedures and business direction are understood by the sales team
  • Conduct regular coaching and counselling with sales staff to build motivation and selling skills
  • Conduct one-on-one review with all sales staff to understand development needs and provide insight for performance improvement of the sales team
  • Promote on the job coaching processes for each sales staff
  • Develop a succession plan for the sales team
  • Help the senior management and the wider business to become more sales focused
  • Conduct inhouse sales training sessions

Planning (10%)
  • Accurately forecast future sales and form sales plans to adapt to constant shifts in the marketplace and business circumstances
  • Develop a sales strategy for the market, that ensures attainment of company sales goals and profitability
  • Initiate and coordinate the development of action plans to penetrate new markets
  • Uncover any areas of sales weakness, and create plans to address them
  • Spot areas of sales strength and work out how to capitalize on them
  • Regularly review and identify opportunities to take advantage of new sales opportunities in a timely fashion
  • Challenge and improve the sales process
  • Provide relevant and appropriate proposals and updates to senior leadership teams

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field. MBA is a plus
  • At least 5 years of experience in business development, sales, marketing or related roles
  • A proven track record of driving revenue growth, closing deals, and developing successful partnerships
  • Understanding of marketing and sales strategies, tactics, and best practices
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills
  • Strong negotiation and persuasion skills
  • Leadership and team management expertise are required to build and mentor high-performing team
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving capabilities
