Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and highly driven Business Development & Technical Sales Manager to establish and grow our B2B flexible packaging market in Tanzania. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical understanding of flexible packaging materials, printing, and production processes, along with a proven ability to develop new business, acquire key clients, and drive sales growth in Tanzania. This role is responsible for identifying new market opportunities, building long-term customer relationships, and introducing innovative and sustainable packaging solutions to industries such as food, beverages, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, FMCG, and industrial packaging. As a pioneer in developing the Tanzanian market, the candidate will play a strategic role in setting up and expanding operations, identifying local partners, and driving market penetration efforts.

Key Responsibilities

Market Development & Business Growth
  • Develop and implement a market entry strategy for Tanzania, focusing on high-potential B2B clients
  • Identify and establish strategic partnerships with local manufacturers, distributors, and key players
  • Build and expand a customer base by identifying new business opportunities and securing contracts
  • Conduct market research to assess demand, customer pain points, and competition
  • Drive sales growth and market penetration, ensuring revenue and profitability targets are met

Technical Sales & Customer Solutions
  • Consult with clients to understand their packaging requirements, product specifications, and performance expectations
  • Recommend the best flexible packaging materials, barrier properties, and sustainable options
  • Work closely with R&D, production, and quality assurance teams to customize solutions. - Conduct technical training, product demonstrations, and packaging trials
  • Provide after-sales support, troubleshooting packaging challenges and ensuring customer satisfaction

Sales & Key Account Management
  • Develop and maintain long-term relationships with key decision-makers
  • Negotiate and manage contracts, ensuring alignment with business objectives
  • Monitor sales performance, customer feedback, and market trends
  • Drive repeat business and customer retention through high service quality

Market Intelligence & Industry Engagement
  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory requirements, and sustainability initiatives
  • Identify opportunities for recyclable, biodegradable, and eco-friendly packaging solutions
  • Represent the company at trade shows, conferences, and industry forums
  • Collaborate with marketing teams to develop localized promotional materials

Key Requirements

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Technology, Polymer Science, Engineering, Business, or related fields
  • Minimum 5-10 years of experience in B2B sales, business development, or technical sales in the flexible packaging industry
  • Strong understanding of packaging materials, manufacturing processes, and applications
  • Experience in developing new markets and setting up distribution channels, preferably in Tanzania or East Africa

Skills & Competencies
  • Proven track record of business development and sales success in B2B flexible packaging
  • Strong technical expertise in flexible packaging products and production processes
  • Excellent relationship-building, negotiation, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and drive market expansion with minimal supervision
  • Willingness to travel extensively across Tanzania to engage with clients

Industry & Product Knowledge Expectations
  • Expertise in printing technologies (flexography, gravure, etc.)
  • Familiarity with barrier properties of different flexible packaging materials
  • Knowledge of lamination, extrusion, and coating technologies
  • Awareness of food safety and regulatory compliance for flexible packaging in Tanzania and East Africa
  • Understanding of sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives (biodegradable films, recyclable laminates, etc.)
