Job Overview
We are looking for a Port Operations Manager responsible for the smooth operations of
the port and cargo operations. The ideal candidate will work closely with
regulatory authorities, port operations and personnel of shipping lines.
Job Responsibilities
- Manage resource allocation within the ports
and monitoring expenditure
Allocate resources to ensure smooth running of port operations
oversee the implementation of workflow improvements that may enhance customer satisfaction and optimise resources
- Encompass performance reporting of ports, in relation to established key performance indicators (KPIs)
- Meet with customers and high level visitors to the Port, providing information about the operations and a tour of the facility
- Manage, motivate, coach and instruct all operational team members.
Structure tasks and goals, establish efficient courses of action, set
priorities and organize information
Analyze expenditure and submit reports to management
Brief port supervisors on vessel loading and discharge standard operating procedures

Conduct interviews and recommend hiring of candidates

Develop a framework and process to manage business risk in chartering operations

Develop and implement in-house training roadmap

Develop processes for implementing manpower planning strategy

Develop vessel loading and discharge plans

Encourage innovation and efficiency improvements to ensure processes are productive

Implement manpower planning processes

Monitor and review manpower planning processes

Monitor vessel operations and productivity

Oversee compliance with workplace Safety and Health policies, procedures and regulations

Oversee daily planning for berth, yard and stowage
Requirements
- Preferable a University Degree in Logistics, Maritime or Port Management
- Minimum 7 years in operations management roles in port
operations, experience within the logistics/transportation industry.
Must have approximately 7 to 10 years of direct supervisory and
managerial experience
- Thorough knowledge of port operations practices and principles
- Should be well organized and capable of multitasking under pressure
- Excellent managerial skills, including planning, organizing, and directing work
- Effective negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Fluent in English and Swahili
- Ability to provide leadership, obtain cooperation and assistance to meet objectives
