Position Objectives
As a Senior Boiler Operator, you will be responsible for supervising a team in ensuring
the building’s mechanical systems stay in top working condition. This will involve determining the operational effectiveness of various plant equipment and machinery, identifying trends in plant production, control of steam and electrical production in the plant, direct subordinates in the plant, monitor and check plant equipment and machinery operation and assist with annual operating budget.
Job Responsibilities
- Manage the boiler and other related machinery, ensuring it is functional and safe at all times
- Inspect safety devices on a daily basis, running tests and reporting any unusual situations
- Monitor boiler water and fuel levels, making adjustments and activating valves as necessary to keep the boiler operational
- Maintain records of operation, fuel and water levels, completed maintenance and other data
- Perform and evaluate water analysis tests and the proper treatment of boiler water
- Supervise all aspects of the plant operations and effectively provide direction to lower level plant operators
- Ensure reliable operational records are maintained and recorded for historical purposes and to document performance metrics for the plant
- Superior knowledge of the operating principles of equipment and machinery used in the plant
- Ability to read, interpret and adjust various instruments in the plant
- Ability to understand written and oral instructions and comply with directives
- Study to keep current on knowledge of all applicable safety laws and regulations in order to ensure full compliance at all times
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and management
- Properly operate all equipment and machinery used in the plant
- Ensure safety by monitoring safety equipment, identifying potential issues and taking appropriate steps to suspend operations and repair the problem
- Supervise team of assistant operators and mechanics by delegating repair, maintenance and monitoring tasks, scheduling jobs, providing appropriate instruction and giving constructive feedback on performance
- Create and enter properly documented records of inspections, maintenance routines and repairs
- Identify and repair or replace malfunctioning components
Job Requirements
- Degree/High Diploma or equivalent full certification to operate standard boiler machinery
- At least 4 years of working experience as a Boiler Operator required
- High physical strength, grip strength and dexterity
- Good attention to small details and highly organized
- Mechanical skills, as well as critical thinking and problem solving abilities
- Supervisory and/or project management experience
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Detail-oriented and highly safety-conscious
