Position Objective
To implement the effective
strategies in Clearing and Forwarding, Company logistical activities and
material management service delivery. To ensure all operations are safe, cost
effective and delivery is done in a timely manner. The Clearance Manager will
look for new business, develop customer data base and ensure that the company
achieves maximum value in its logistical activities whilst ensuring good
business practices and highest ethical standards are adhered to all times.To give considerable effort and
commitment to ensure continued customer satisfaction and maintenance of service
levels as well as great discipline and standardization of operating procedures.
Primary Responsibilities
- Involving in the company market
activities by working together with the company team in
planning and implementing the company business strategies
- Investigating and planning the most
appropriate route for a shipment, taking account of the perishable or hazardous
nature of the goods, cost, transit time and security
- Arranging appropriate packing, taking
account of climate, terrain, weight, nature of goods and cost, and the delivery
and warehousing of goods at their final destination
- Negotiating contracts, transportation
and handling costs
- Obtaining, checking and preparing
documentation to meet customs and insurance requirements, packing
specifications, and compliance with overseas countries' regulations and fiscal
regimes
- Offering consolidation services by air,
sea and road, ensuring cost-effective and secure solutions to small shippers
who have insufficient cargo to require their own dedicated units
- Liaising with third parties to move
goods (by road, rail, air or sea) in accordance with customer requirements
- Arranging insurance and assisting the
client in the event of a claim
- Arranging payment of freight and other
charges or collection of payment on behalf of the client
- Utilizing e-commerce, internet
technology and satellite systems to enable real-time tracking of goods
- Arranging air transport for urgent and
high-value freight and managing the risk door to door
- Arranging charters for large volume,
out-of-gauge or project movements by air and sea
- Acting as broker in customs
negotiations worldwide to guide the freight efficiently through complex
procedures
- Arranging courier and specialist hand-carry
services
- Working closely with customers,
colleagues and third parties to ensure smooth operations to deadlines
- Maintaining communication and control
through all phases of the journey, including the production of management
reports and statistical and unit cost analysis
- Acting as a consultant in customs
matters
- Maintaining current knowledge of relevant
legislation, political situations and other factors that could affect the
movement of freight
Major Requirements
- Degree
qualified in Commerce and/or any Professional qualification in Tax, Customs,
Supply chain Management, Transport and Logistics are required
- Good communication skills,
fluent in both English and Swahili
- At least 5 years working experience in Clearing and Forwarding & Logistics company handling both locally and international transit, with project management experience
- Working effectively in an environment with
rapidly shifting and often contradictory demands and priorities
- Ability to look
beyond the obvious in problem-solving
- Ability to
solve problems under time pressure with frequent interruptions and work
effectively in a variety of roles with both technical and non-technical
personnel
- Demonstrated
ability and initiative to independently stay abreast of current and emerging
changes in Customers demands, Clearing & Forwarding process, Tax laws and systems
- Ability to lead
a team and manage his /her team performance
- Willingness and ability to
learn new operating systems or application software packages
